F10 Germicidal Barrier Ointment

Product Details

F10 Germicidal Barrier Ointment is an antiseptic preparation effective against bacteria, fungi and viruses.  The product can be used to treat open and contaminated wounds and to act as a protective barrier against infections on intact or abraded skin as well as in open wounds.  It is safe for use on any species of animal of any age.

The antimicrobial action of the preparation is based upon the proprietary branded F10 compound. The mechanism of action of F10 is derived from those of each component taken separately, in addition to those due to the additive synergistic action of all components combined. At the concentrations in the product F10 has been assessed as giving a >log⁵ reduction in microbial counts against gram positive and gram negative bacteria; fungi, yeasts and moulds; enveloped and non-enveloped viruses; bacterial and fungal spores.  The group of keratinophylic fungi is very large, but only two genera, know as dermatophytes, are known to cause disease (“ringworm”) in animals.  The genera involved are Microsporum spp, and Trichophyton spp.  At the concentration in the product F10 GERMICIAL BARRIER OINTMENT it was found to be effective in a contact time of 10 minutes however repeated applications re-applied every day until the condition clears is the recommended treatment protocol.

Indications:

• Ideal as a topical application to treat and help prevent re-infection in a number of clinical situations either alone or in conjunction with associated therapies.
• Treatment of isolated fungal lesions e.g. ringworm on all species of all ages.
• Superficial skin lesions, burns and open, deep penetrating or contaminated wounds: e.g. Friction, burns, foreign body penetrations, bite wounds and open abscesses, scale and shell rot and heater burns in reptiles.
• Treatment of localised bacterial skin conditions e.g. skinfold dermatitis, hot spot, superficial pyoderma.
